Som Global News | May 1, 2025 – Mogadishu, Somalia
The latest forecast from Somalia’s meteorological services and humanitarian agencies indicates a week of mixed weather conditions across the country, with rainfall expected in some regions and dry, dusty winds in others.
According to the Famine Early Warning Systems Network (FEWS NET) and the Somalia Water and Land Information Management (SWALIM) unit, the week of April 29 to May 5, 2025, will bring varied climate activity, affecting both livelihoods and mobility in some areas.
☔ Expected Rainfall in Southern and Central Regions
Rain is forecasted to fall across parts of Bay, Bakool, Lower Shabelle, and Hiraan, providing much-needed relief to farmlands. However, there are also concerns about potential flash flooding in low-lying areas, especially near rivers such as the Shabelle and Jubba.
“Communities living in flood-prone zones should remain alert and take precautions,” advised SWALIM in its weekly report.
🌬️ Dry Winds and Dust in Northern Somalia
In contrast, northern regions including Puntland and parts of Somaliland will continue to experience dry, hot, and dusty conditions, which could impact visibility and respiratory health, especially in open and urban areas.
🌡️ Temperature Outlook
Temperatures across most of Somalia are expected to remain between 32°C and 40°C, with the hottest conditions in the inland central regions. Residents are advised to stay hydrated and avoid prolonged exposure to the sun during peak hours.
⚠️ Advisory for Pastoral and Farming Communities
Agropastoral communities are encouraged to monitor local forecasts and plan activities accordingly, particularly in areas expecting above-normal rainfall or strong winds.
